Signal Hill Trails |

If you want a good workout
between hikes, the pedestrian trails through the City of Signal Hill is the place. A number of challenging paved and
unpaved paths wind through the hillsides. Stairs lead up to the hill top.
The views are great (for a city view), you have a 360 degree view which includes Los
Angeles and Orange Counties. Ocean views on one side of the hill, mountains on the other. The trails and park
areas are nicely landscaped.
If extreme hill climbing is not for you it's still possible to enjoy the
views. Panorma Promenade is flat and paved with mountain views. You will find outdoor excercise equipment along
the path. The hillside below the promenade still is an active oil field but may be a future natural park someday, hopefully
something similar to El Dorado Nature Center, minus the lakes.
Previously mentioned possible future nature preserve is in fact in the planning
stages apparently. It's been named Cha'wot, you can read more about it at this link: http://longbeachnaturalareas.blogspot.com/2007/07/chawot-nature-preserve-signal-hill.html and the Sierra Club is asking for help in showing public interest which you
can read about here: http://angeles.sierraclub.org/longbch/Navigation/conservation_cha-wot.html
The Signal Hill Trail System doesn't just have good day time views, perfect
place to view a sunset. The two pics below taken 1/1/11 on the ocean side of the hill overlooking Long Beach, Catalina
Island on the horizon. Pics taken from Ocean View Trail and Skyline Trail area.
