Fort Tejon is a 1854 restored army fort, one of 70
California State Parks slated for closure July 2012. The park features 400 year old Valley Oak Trees, exhibits
and a museum. Located off the I5 fwy, a few miles North of Gorman in Lebec (Kern County near the "grapevine"). Fort Tejon
was the site of the largest earthquake recorded in Southern California history, magnitude 8.0 in 1857 (actually
the quake was not centered at Ft Tejon but this was the closest populated area at the time). For current hours of operation
and more information see the California State Parks Website at http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=585. For more pictures see the Fort Tejon photo gallery on CAopenspace Facebook Page. Click any pic on this page to enlarge.
